What does that mean?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to soft tissue injury.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Crepitus means the grating, crackling or popping sounds and sensations experienced under the skin and joints or a crackling sensation due to the presence of air in the subcutaneous tissue.
Crepitus in patella can be due to a soft tissue injury in the area or due to damage to joint surface of patella. This can happen due to inflammation in the area also. This should gradually subside with rest and mild anti inflammatory medicines.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.

My doctor diagnosed me with Patellar Chrondosis. I have been in physical therapy for a month. The injury occurred 2 months ago when I was attacked at work (I work at a prison). I landed on my knee. The pain has not gotten better and has actually intensified. I have another appointment with my orthopedic next week. Do you think surgery may be an option?
