Suggest Treatment For Sodium Hydroxide Inhalation Poisoning

Question: Hi There, I have symptoms of sodium hydroxide poisoning; shortness of breath, sore throat, some difficulty swallowing, pain in chest, pain in back. All this is as a result of working on a newly installed industrial dishwasher with no extraction ventilation. Did three long busy shifts of over eight hours inhaling steam (probably caustic) containing Sodium Hydroxide didn't feel too well but tried to "throw it off". However it is now three days since being there, due to rostered days off, and the symptoms have not receded. I'm worried about it because I think that there may be irreparable damaged done, it feels a bit like pleurisy which I have had when I was younger. My query is: Does this sort of damage repair itself and if so how long do you think it could take. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Complete evaluation of respiratory system needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, The symptoms are of sodium hydroxide inhalation poison. My advice is once visit the local physician and get complete evaluation done . If any damage occurs, it may need medical management. Don't wait for itself to repair. The condition should be treated with oxygen, broncho dialators etc.,

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. We will be happy to help you.
Thank you.
