Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your wife is having cough. I would like to ask you few more details.

- Is there any breathlessness or fever ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your details, it looks like infective cough

Answers and solutions

1. Severe cough can have bloody sputum.

2. If the cough is acute, can be managed with cough suppressents and antibiotic course, where as in chronic, x-ray chest and blood tests are needed.

3. you need to see a local physician or ent surgeon for further evaluation and treatment.

4. In the mean time stop mucolytic syrup and start simple over the counter anti allergic tab. Zyrtec (citrizine) daily once.

Brief Answer:
Can be taken.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Looks like viral cold, causing complicated cough. Mucolite is not recommended in breastfeeding mothers as it may pass to the baby. You can try Cheri 4 flu OR Cheston cold cough syrup which is comparatively safe. You can take zirtec medication (no side effects in both, mother and baby) until you see a doctor. Take one of three recommended. If she has difficulty breathing, then she needs to see a doctor sooner.

Steam inhalation is good. Saline gargles are also good.

Take care.
