Suggest Treatment For Skin Lesions Due To Insect Bites On A Child
Question: My 3 year old daughter woke up with these. Two are located below the right armpit and two near her waistline. We had an ant problem but thought they were mitigated successfully. It's possible they're still in the house. Could these be any bites, bed bugs or possibly staph?
A little background. My wife just went to the doctor for a sinus infection and the doctor said it was likely staph and prescribed her augmentin. He did the same thing a year ago and never tested her either time. My daughter has had chronic rhinitis and conjunctivitis. We are having her tested for allergies but my daughters nanny has been tested for a staph infection in her sinuses and came back positive. I was tested for staph a couple years ago and came back with moderate MSSA from a swab to the nose, neck and armpit and groin.

I have gone through your question and the picture attached. Most likely the skin lesions are due to insect bites. Many a times body of kids release histamines and other inflammatory mediators which leads to such reactive skin lesions. Don't worry they will heal in next few days.
You may take the following measures to help her out:
1. Give her antihistamine such as Syp. Benadryl or Chlorpheniramine. This will relieve associated irritation of skin.
2. Trim her nails because unnecessary trauma to skin may cause secondary bacterial infections and delayed healing.
3. Apply lactocalamine lotion on the lesions at least thrice daily.
Also, try to get rid of insects ( bed bugs or ants) from her surroundings.
There is no laboratory work up needed for this.
