Brief Answer:
DEC, repeat AEC after 2 weeks. If already started, rule out a reaction.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. He needs a course of Hetrazan (diethylcarbamazine-DEC) or Trozan OD Syrup for two weeks. Repeat the AEC (Absolute Eosiniophil Count) after two weeks.

2. If the Hetrazan/ Trozan OD Syrup has been started, consult a skin specialist immediately to check whether this is a reaction to this medicine (Mazzotti Reaction), which can be an emergency.

3. Which syrup is he taking currently? An anti-allergic is also required.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
1.Familial rare 2.Food rare 3.latest anti-allergic, DEC 4.MultiOrgan damage

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. You need to get a prescription for a newer generation anti-histamine (anti-allergic ) medication. In addition, DEC should be given.

2. I would consider the Familial variant of Eosinophilia if your wife is closely related to your extended family, otherwise it cannot be familial. Yes, Familial Eosinophilia exists but is very rare. In this situation there is no long term health problem to the family members.

3. It is important for you to consult a Hematologist to rule out a Hypereosinophilic Syndrome. This will involve blood tests (including genetic tests), whole body check-up to look for signs of any organ damage, as food allergy is not the only reason for high eosinophil counts.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
