Brief Answer:
may need an alternative course of antibiotics

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I am assuming that the abscess was drained by your ENT doctor because once it remains, you would not completely respond to the medication. The definitive treatment of any abscess, no matter where it is located.

The infected sinuses would cause all of the symptoms that you are describing.

With 3 courses of antibiotics ( 2 amoxicillin and 1 erythromycin) and a course of steroids the infection should be resolving.
If it isn't then it may imply that the bacteria causing the infection is resistant to these medications and a stronger one may be needed for resolution.

Eg a quinolone such ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin

If the abscess was drained then the doctor may have sent a sample to the lab to determine the exact bacteria causing the infection and the best treatment.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
