Question: About a month ago i had this happen and, it's back now. It is a sound like a woodpecker bird -- from lack of a better explanation of the sound. It is a knocking sound that doesn't sound like it is in my ear, but rather detached from me physically. However , it is definiately in/on my person causing the sound! Weird!!!

Brief Answer:
probably simple auditory hallucinations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

I have one through your query and also through the details which you have provided in earlier questions answered by other doctors.
You have been suffering from depression and also suffered the stress of your husband's caretaking and death.

Now you hear this weird sound which feels to be detached from you physically.
You have also hear such sounds about a month ago. Can you please tell for how long did those sounds in past last? How did you handle them? How did those sounds went away?

In my opinion, these sounds seem to be simple auditory hallucinations.
Such sounds can occur when a person is anxious, depressed, stressed or sleep deprived. I think its due to depression and stress in your case.

If possible, consult a psychologist for further management of these sounds.
some suggestions from my side are:

Consider the voices in conscious awareness.
Recognizing that they are merely a symptom and aren’t based in reality.
This will help you to get comfortable with the voices.
The more you will get stressed out, the more voices will increase in intensity.

Along with that, proper treatment of depression is necessary.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask further, if you have more issues to discuss.

I wish you good health.

Take care.
