Suggest Treatment For Signs Of Dementia

Question: Can I enter 19 different drugs at once to get interactions? My Mom is showing signs of dementia and we are very concerned that some of it is caused from so many meds. She had an appointment at a memory center that was made 6 months ago and now they have called and moved it to May. That will be 8 months before anyone can see her and we are trying to do as much research as possible. Thank you. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Thank you. She takes these daily.
Tramadol HCL, Valium D2-Ergocalciferol, Prozac Fluoxetine HCL, Tirosint-Levothyroxine Sodium, Pepcid, Potassium Chloride, Lipitor, Lortab (for night time use only), Lotrel Amlodipie Besylate/Benazepril, Januvia, Ketoconazole, Glipizide, Hydrochlorothiazide, Celebrex, Detrol LA, Diazepam, Calcium Carbonate/Vitamin D3, Baclofen and Azithromycin.

I got this list from her Patient Portal with the Arkansas Baptist Health Care System so she may not actually take each daily - maybe just once a week, etc.

She has had several back surgeries since 2012 and has lots of arthritis and lives with chronic pain now.

Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry. Can be given together.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the list. Sorry for the inadvertent delay in responding.

Possibly you are worrying too much. There are a number of medicines that are either same, of similar category, or of similar purpose. So, essentially only a few of the mentioned medicines would form a combination. But I do not find any major interaction among the drug classes. You need not worry.

Once you have the specifics of the prescription, you may get it cross checked by me once again.

Thank you Dr Saha,

Thank you for relieving my stress about the medications. Do you think it might be possible for any of these medications to mimic symptoms of dementia?

Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Dementia is not something to be mimicked. It occurs due to the degenerating networks due to advancement in age. It is unlikely to be caused due to such medications.
