Question: I have a very, very sharp and painful, intermittant pain in my ear, an upset stomach and a cold sore in my nose

Thanks for posting the query.

Intermittent earache could be due to various reasons which can be confirmed after a thorough examination. The commonest causes include:
1. Eustachian tube block.
2. Infection in the middle or external ear.
3. Temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) problems.

Stomach upset and cold sores will reduce with symptomatic medicines.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Consult your doctor for a complete evaluation of ear, nose, throat and the TMJ.
2. Drink warm water, take substantial amounts of fluids in the form of fresh fruit juices, butter milk, etc. Oral rehydration salts available OTC will be of great help in replenishing the lost electrolytes.
3. Yogurt will help in reducing the stomach discomfort.
4. For cold sore you can try any one of the below medicines, available OTC.
Rinstead Adult Gel
Lypsyl Cold Sore Gel
Anbesol Adult Gel
5. And for the pain, the medicines available OTC such as, ibuprofen, diclofenac, can be tried.
