Suggest Treatment For Sharp Ankle Pain Caused By Plantar Fasciitis

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Jan 2016
Question: Do you know if it would be possible to walk with a damaged Plantar Fasciitis? I did something to the bottom of my foot yesterday, heard a pop and felt pain when I stepped on a ridge in our basement. Now I can't put full weight on my foot but can walk around awkwardly. I know something has been damaged, I'm tired and slightly nauseous from the pain, but just can't identify specifically where. Prodding the foot and ankle does not invoke sharp pain anywhere. There just a dull ache from the arch of my foot into the bottom of my heel.

Brief Answer:
Could be plantar fasciitis, but need to rule out fracture & pinched nerve

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. It does sound to me like it could very well be plantar fasciitis, but this is only an assumption as a physical examination is most important to reach this diagnosis.

Most of the pain is around the heel of the foot, and is usually stabbing and most intense early in the morning, and eases down as the day passes by. But please do try to rest your foot as much as possible until you can visit your doctor for a more accurate diagnosis.

Physical examination is the most important mode of diagnosis, but an x-ray and an MRI are also used in order to rule out other causes like a fracture or a pinched nerve. So please do visit your doctor at your earliest convenience.

Treatment includes the use of splints, physical therapy, pain-management medications (e.g. ibuprofen), cushioned foot wear (i.e. orthotics). I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
