Brief Answer:
Betahistine or cinnarizine may provide relief.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcaerMagic.

Tinnitus can occur due to various reasons and the treatment depends on the underlying cause. If it is of acute onset, it could be due to a viral infection, nothing needs to be done and it should be back to normal in a week or so. On the other hand, if the tinnitus is due to some other cause like age related degenerative changes, vestibulocochlear stabilizing agents like betahistine or cinnarizine (prescription medicine) may provide relief. Antioxidants containing agents like ginkgo biloba are also used. There is nothing called 'best treatment'. A methodological approach needs to be taken to see what best works for you.

In case of age related degenerative diseases, it might be hard to get rid of tinnitus. In such a case, hearing aids with masking sounds are used. This often best gives the impression of relief from tinnitus.
