Brief Answer:
Sunburn treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting. It heals with peeling/desquamation. Desquamation is associated with discomfort, itching.

If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids e.g Methylprednisolone 32 mg once daily, after breakfast, for a week OR Prednisolone 40 mg once daily, after breakfast, for a week. Oral steroids are rapidly effective and immediately bring down the discomfort/itching within 24-36 hours.

In addition to that you may also use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream (Flutivate cream) twice daily or a few days.

An OTC oral antihistamimine e.g cetrizine would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
