Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: My 4.5 year old son is having severe stomach pain (intermittent - 15 / 20 mins interval) from last 2 days. We consulted a doctor and was prescribed - DrotinDS syrup 1-1-1, Normetrogyl syrup 1-0-1, Econorm XXXXXXX 1-1-1 and Emeset Syrup 1-1-1. However, think that none of medicine is taking effect since he was vomiting out all medicine - immediately after consuming - today morning and lunch he did not vomit them out though. Please advice

Brief Answer:
The medicines are proper. Please give them as directed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Your doctor has suspected a gastrointestinal infection and has tried to treat it. I would suggest you to give Emeset half an hour before his feeds or before other medications. In that case he is unlikely to vomit out the medicines. Although it is good to hear that is no longer vomiting, you may still consider giving him oral rehydration solution (ORS) made by mixing a XXXXXXX in the designated amount of water and giving sip by sip. Continue Normetrogyl for 5 days. Other medicines are symptomatic and can be withdrawn if the symptoms are not longer there. Econorm contains beneficial bacteria and so does curd. I would suggest you to give plenty of curd.

Please be patient. In a few days time things should be fine.
