Suggest Treatment For Severe Stinging Sensation And Itching After Insect Bite

Question: I was bitten by an unknown insect 48 hours ago. Intense stinging sensation was followed by intense itching and redness, which is spreading. The area is the inside of the upper arm. Nothing seems to help. Should I seek medical attention. Thank you.

Thanks for posting the query to HCM,

If it's just an insect bite then you need not worry much. The reaction will come down in couple of days.

Try placing ice cubes on the affected area 2 to 3 times a day. You can have over the counter available antihistamine like benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton.

Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion applied to the skin may help relieve itching and redness

Acetaminophen, such as Tylenol
Ibuprofen, such as Advil or Motrin
will relieve any pain and swelling.

If still the swelling persists then you'll have to consult the doctor.
