Detailed Answer:
Hello ! Thank you for asking HealthCareMagic.
I have gone through your question and I understand.
A shoulder pain 8/10 is a very strong pain and the drugs that the doctor prescribed are good at controlling this type of pain.
Unfortunately there is not any non addictive medication that can make the pain go away completely compare to these opioid drugs .

He can try NSAID ( antiimflammator -painkillers -non steroidal) group of drugs; one of these
-Diclofenac
-Ibuprofen
-Naproxen
-Ketorolac is the strongest one of this class ( but don't use it more than 5 days for high risk of aid effect)needs doctor prescription.

He can use topical painkillers also together with the oral ones .

Hope i have answered your question.
Let me know if you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Take Care !
