Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Waist And Hip

Question: Sudden onset of pain in back at right side near waist. Pain can be severe even when not moving, or when sitting. Pain sometimes radiates to hip. Was walking last night, and was stiff this morning, but unable to bend at waist.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain that you have reported. This is very suggestive of lumbago. The best treatment is physical therapy. Learning how to exercise and move the waist in different directions would be very helpful. In addition, ice packs could help. While pain medications might offer some relief, more studies show that they do not really make a great difference.

In all, see a physical therapist for best results. Home exercises would be helpful as well.
