Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Shoulder

default
Posted on Wed, 31 May 2017
Question: I've had a bad left shoulder for several weeks now. When I say "bad" it has similar characteristics to "rotator cuff tear", which I had a long time ago.

I think it might have happened due to leaning on it too much in bed.

It seems tender rather than painful. Putting on and taking off a T-shirt is tough.

Brief Answer:
It can be impingement syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain in left shoulder can be due to cuff tear or frozen shoulder but impingement syndrome is most common where there is nerve compression in shoulder, I have following questions to understand your problem.
1. Do you have restricted movement in shoulder ?
2. Do you have pain all the time or only with movement ?
3. Have you done any investigations like x rays or mri of the shoulder ?
please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
Thanks

1. Yes I have restricted movement in the sense that I notice the pain when I do certain things. Taking a T-shirt on and off is a good example of what brings out the pain.

2. No I only have pain when I turn the arm a certain way or do activities like I described above.

3. No haven't done any investigations.

thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You need to get MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Shoulder pain is most probably due to nerve compression in shoulder. I have following suggestions.
1. You need to get MRI to confirm the diagnosis.
2. Steroid injection in the shoulder can be given by trained orthopedic surgeon.
3. Hot water fomentation and physiotherapy is needed after injection to improve movement of the shoulder.
4. if pain is severe then you need to take tablet Lyrica one at night time.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other follow-up questions.
Thanks
