Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching Throughout The Body

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Mar 2017
Question: Dear Sir,

For the last 10-15 days I am suffering with severe itching over my body which was started from head . Later on spread on my hand and now all parts of my body except face including palms and feet. When due to itching I scratch my skin there are big red pink scratch patches all over my skin which disappear after taking anti allergic. I am taking anti allergic tablet cetrizine three times a day to cure itching. I noticed that itching happens to be more in evening and night therefore I am not able to sleep well in night too and itch like crazy .

For your information, I would like to inform that I was using since November 2016 Minoxodil 5% on my scalp for hair fall and also taking Finapecia 5 mg but due to itching on my scalp I switched over to 2% once in a day instead of 5% and also started using Nizral shampoo which significantly relived me from scalp itching. Besides this I am also taking daine 35. I did not take any anti biotic course etc. for the last 6-7 months. Currently I am not on any medicine except as mentioned above.

Please advise .

Regards

Brief Answer:
Acute Urticaria

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thenk you for your query.
I have read your question and I have noted your concern. You seem to suffer from Acute urticaria Or Hives. It presents as itching and skin welts/swellings, which can be distributed all over the body.
Urticaria OR hives can occur due to various causes like(to name a few):

-Infections(bacterial , viral, fungal)
-Drugs(Pain killers/ antibiotics etc)
-Certain foods and food additives/preservatives
-Physical: Cold temperature, Heat, Pressure(Prolonged Standing, Sitting), Dermographism etc.
-Cholinergic Urticaria: in response to strong emotions like anger, embarassment and guilt, in response to exercise, spicy food etc
-Autoimmune disorders like SLE, RA etc.
-A few cases have no underlying cause and are known as idiopathic urticaria.

I would advice you to get few basic lab tests like Complete Hemogram, stool for ova/cyst, Urine routine, Chest X-Ray.

An oral antihistamine like Fexofenadine (Allegra 180 mg tab) in morning and Loratadine (Alaspan 10mg tablet) once daily in evening for a week or 10 days would be suitable. They are non-sedating and wont affect your alertness level.

In addition you may also use a soothing lotion for relief e.g Calamine lotion.
