Suggest Treatment For Severe Heartburn And High BP

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: a change in my health has changed in the last 4 months. I have daily heartburn that burns my throat. I am not overweight, don't smoke and have maybe 2 glasses of wine a month. I have asthma and take meds for it. I take 1/2 of a water pill for high blood pressure and just went through radio active therapy to treat my hyperactive thyroid. This is new and not comfortable. Is it serious?

Take ilaprazole and domepridone instead

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.

I can understand your concerns

I will advise you to get an endoscopy examination to see what is happening inside. It may be GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, may be associated with Loose lower oesophageal sphincter or histus hernia) which can be controlled by medicines only in most of the cases.

I will also like to inform that the proton pump inhibitor like prilosec, rabeprazole or ilaprazole are very safe medicines and it has been shown that even after prolonged intake it has got minimal or no side effects

In my opinion
1.avoid tea, coffee, oily and spicy food.
2.Also avoid citrus fruits.
3.Among medications take a proton pump inhibitor like Ilaprazole and a prokinetic agent like domperidone. Ilaprazole has higher efficacy than prilosec or prevacid which you have taken
4.Dont lie down at least for 2 hrs after any meal and
5. Dont drink water for at least 2 hrs with any meal.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
