Brief Answer:
I suggest testing for Iron stores and Thyroid levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I have understood it.

Yes, it is true.. hair shedding usually reduces during pregnancy under the influence of hormone i.e estrogen, therefore, most females notice that hair become thick and lusturous during pregnancy until 1-3 months after delivery when hair that was kept from shedding during pregnancy, falls precipitously.

This decrease in hair shedding during pregnancy is due to prolongation of anagen, which is the growth phase of hair cycle.

Reasons responsible for hair fall during pregnancy commonly are like Iron deficiency anemia and hypothyroidism.
These deficiencies can be measured i.e Hemoglobin levels and Serum Ferritin levels to determine Iron stores and Serum TSH levels.

Iron stores are usually deficient in females and if the stores were already less this deficiency in iron stores becomes more aggravated during pregnancy.

Gynecologists usually add an Iron supplement at the start of 2 nd trimester and therefore this part would be taken care off in your case.

I suggest you to also take a test for Thyroid activity i.e TSH levels.

Oral treatment is usually not warranted during pregnancy apart from Iron supplement and Thyroid hormone replacement, if revealed by tests.
