Question: I am taking famotidine 40 mg for acid reflux since August 2016. Works very effectively, but now I am experiencing morning dizziness and my blood sugar level has spiked up into 120 range in morning test. I am 74 year old white male with no high blood pressure problems. Could this drug affect my blood sugar levels? The dizziness is a stated possible side effect.

Brief Answer:
Famotidine is not the cause of high glycemia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for the query!

I would like to inform that until now, there is no correlation between famotidine use and the increased risk for Diabetes.

Blood sugar range between in these levels is considered ''impaired fasting glucose tolerance'', any way postprandial levels (PPBS) and HbA1C level would give further information regarding to the blood sugar levels of the last 3 months.

Dizziness is known as a side effect.

Hope the information will help, feel free to ask in case of any further doubts.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
