Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: I have been experiencing severe diarrhea for a long time. It is very erratic and happens all of a sudden. I have absolutely no control over it. I was hospitalized over a year ago with C-diff. that was caused by antibiotics. since then I changed some things. I no longer take Prilosec, I am on Pepcid which doesn't control the gerd as well. I take a probiotic and try to eat yogurt as often as possible. I am still having explosive diarrhea which is affecting my work.

Brief Answer:
First get treated for diarrhoea occured at present

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In diarrhoea, character and consistency of stool is very important rather than frequency.
If you are suffering from diarrhoea, can you tell me how was the character of stool or what was the consistency of stool whether its watery or non watery.
Frequent diarrhoea needs to diagnosed first as in your case,it could be infective(mostly virus or bacteria or parasites) like gastroenteritis, cholera, colitis, dysentery etc or irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease or lactose intolerance etc.
If you had hospitalized a year ago for diarrhoea because of clostridium difficile then yes it is due to infection and replacement of that bacteria in intestine in place of normal gut bacteria.
At present, probiotics will help to restore normal gut bacterial flora but you might be having infective diarrhoea again. So,only taking probiotics is not the definitive treatment.
You must consult your physician to get diagnosed and treated the underlying cause.
It may require hospitazation depending upon the severity and other vital signs
Tab.prilosec or pepcid are not the treatment for diarrhoea.
Do ask if any query further.
