Question: I'm having depression. I have trouble showering and getting dress for the day. I have trouble committing to work because of this. I have trouble leaving my house.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

From the available description it appears to me that you are having severe depression as there is evidence of significant impact on activities of daily life such as dressing, going for work, leaving house and probably many others.

As I can see that you are taking full dose of lexapro with little improvement there is definite need to change medication. Generally we can wait for maximum six weeks to get full effects of antidepressant but in your case you are taking it for last two years with limited/no benefit. This signals that lexapro is not working for you so there is definite need to change the antidepressant.

I request you to contact your doctor without delay for new prescription.

I also like to inform you that psychotherapy should be the part of treatment process as severe depression often responds better with combination of medication and psychotherapy.
