default
Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, My baby is one and a half year old. She is having cough since August. When we give her medicine she gets some relief but as soon as we stop giving her medicine problem starts again. From antibiotics to steroids we are done with everything. Nebulizer also don't work. What to do? Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Due to season change

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Let me mention that cold temperatures depress our immunity and we become vulnerable to the viruses around us and we start having cough and cold. Such infections usually have an allergic component. The immunity of children is lesser and hence they tend to suffer more. So long as this season lasts the cough and cold would be there irrespective of what you do. So I would insist you to be patient and not opt for steroids and antibiotics. They would do more harm than good. Rather give steam inhalation and some antiallergic like cetirizine.

Feel free to write back.

Brief Answer:
As already explained

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the updates. I understand, but what I have said remains valid. Syr. Montair LC is better than cetirizine and can be given instead. But you would need to be patient and understand what is actually going on.

Actually problem is Kid is having cough since August. Its been 6 month. She is on and off on medication. She vomits due to cough and after that she don't want to eat anything. I am concern about her lungs. I can't give her banana and curd.

Also please let me know about nebulizer and other medication mentioned on prescription. Are they good?

Brief Answer:
Questions answered one by one.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Let me assure you that contrary to popular belief, giving curd or banana does not increase the propensity to catching cold. Rather, they are extremely beneficial and should be given without worries.

The nebulizations are good and can be given without worries. They would be essential if there is wheezing or respiratory distress. But if those are not present, mere steam inhalation should suffice.
