default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jun 2016
Question: My husband has had coughing, wheezing for over two weeks. He went to the doctor one week ago and they put him on a Z-Pac and a steroid. He has now finished the dosage and is somewhat better, but still has the cough and wheezing. Can't get a quick call back from his doctor. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Better to start inhaled bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroids.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, your husband is having bronchitis.
Coughing and wheezing are common symptoms of bronchitis.
And inhaled treatment is the best treatment for bronchitis.
Since he is not taking inhaled treatment, he is not improving.
So, better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (pulmonary function test).
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease.
And treatment is based on severity only.
He will mostly improve with inhaled treatment.
Please let me know if he is smoker.
I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
