Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Pain, Dizziness And Shortness Of Breath

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jan 2015
Question: Had severe chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath Wednesday a few hours after drinking a latte. I am very sensitive to caffeine but have never experienced Chest pain after ingesting. Got an ekg from an urgent care which they said looks fine. However it states "abnormal precordial qrs contours-non diagnostic for this age."

I have still had some chest pain but it is more a soreness now rather than the sharp pain. I am still concerned. What could this mean?

I had chest pain a few years back and was told I had a hiatal hernia. It went away and nothing ever came of that.

Brief Answer:
Likely Esophagitis / need more investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Your symptoms do not suggest Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) – pain from the heart is oppressing, in central chest (and left), worse on effort, relieved by rest, may radiate to shoulders and arms, associated with sweating and so on.
The very fact that one is discharged from ER means it is not acute or serious…
If in doubt, they would have suggested a Treadmill Exercise Electrocardiogram (TMT)
You are rather young and acquired heart disease is unlikely. An ECHOcardiogram can see the heart valves (Mitral Valve Prolapse) / heart muscle (Cardiomyopathy) and heart function (Ejection fraction, wall motion abnormality) / clots...

Variation in ECG are common… it may be a normal variation / or from electrical, biochemical or mechanical causes. TMT and/or ECHO will clarify. The treating doctor could easily conclude, based on the total clinical picture – examination and investigation findings.

It is likely that the pain is from Esophagitis – precipitated by your hiatus hernia
The ideal option to confirm is to have an Upper GI endoscopy (gastroscopy)
In the meantime, Over The Counter (OTC) antacid like magaldrate / Proton Pump Inhibitor like Omeprazole or H2 antagonist like ranitidine – can help

Good luck
God bless you
