Suggest Treatment For Severe Belching After Eating And Lower Back Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: I have had a history of acid reflex. Test show that I have twice the normal amount of acid in my stomach. I usually have a lot of belching of gas and pain between my shoulder blades. I have been on omeprazole or nexium for 12 years. About four weeks ago I started belching really bad after eating again with some pain in my lower back right side. The more I would belch, the less pain I would have. I went to a Med clinic while in Florida and he put me on Carafate and Dexilant for two weeks. No change except the pain in my lower back has become very sharp at times and especially if I twist or turn. It feels like it is right in my spine at times. I have a good appetite and am not nauseous. The Dr. recommended I go and see a Gastroenterologist which may take weeks so I'm trying to decide that or emergency room or fly back to Mi. to see my family Dr.

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
The pain towards the bottom of the rib in the middle and the right could be due to peptic ulcer disease. An upper GI endoscopy may be done to confirm it.

The other possibility of pain in that region associated with back pain could be pancreatitis. A CT scan of the abdomen may be done to see if you have pancreatitis.

You can go to ER if the pain is not tolerable and get the tests done.

Regards,
Dr.R.K
