Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain That Radiates To The Legs

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: I hurt my back while working out at the gym last week. I am in severe pain with radiating pain down m legs. I am having trouble sleeping and have to prop my legs u and use a heating pad to get a few hours of sleep. With using days of ice and heat and Ibuprofen I am still in pain. I'm wondering if I should go straight to the emergency I recently started working out at the gym in January. The pain is in my lower back and feels likes its throbbing and aching so badly that I've even gotten into tubs of hot water to take my mind of the pain. Nothing is helping. It's stiff and hurts when I get up or sit down, but its most worst at night.

Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the back that you have can be due to-
1. Lumbar muscle strain- due to tear or pull of muscle fibres.
2. Lumbar disc herniation, sciatica, etc.
3. Arthritis or ankylosing spondylosis.
4. Weak core muscles-Strengthening the muscles that support the spine helps keep the spine in its proper position and reduce risk of sprains, strains and lower back pain.
5. Vitamin D3 deficiency.
Proper diagnosis involves investigations like ultrasound of the abdomen, X-ray and MRI of the spine after an examination by your primary physician.
The treatment will then depend on the cause.
Hot fomentation and oral muscle relaxants can provide a temporary relief till then.

I hope this answers your query.
