Question: I have tricompartmental chondromalacia of the right. Moderate to severe. Is a knee replacement the only solution
I am limping badly.have an effusion and in constant disc. I am 79 and still working .

If you have severe arthritis with less than 90 degrees of knee flexion then you can be considered for knee replacement.

Till then Conservative methods of treatment of your condition will be helpful. Hyaluronic acid injection will also be helpful in the joint with steroid.

Slip disc if compromising the nerve function may need to be operated. Otherwise it can be left alone.
