Question: Hi . Over the past couple of years I have suffered from mild Acid Reflux and was prescribed Omeprazole (10mg) to take daily or just when I felt I needed them. I haven't really needed to use them much over the past few years but over the past couple of weeks I've suffered from more acidity than normal. I've also felt a bit under the weather and noticed the last week or two I've been a bit more hot and sweaty than normal. I am 41 play golf for a living a feel generally pretty fit. I run a couple if times a eek and play football. I have had a stressful few months due to a family bereavement but definitely have noticed these symptoms recently.

Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome ot HCM

Detailed Answer:
These are symptoms of acid reflux, stomach ulcer , GERD and acid reflux has tendency to become worse during emotional or physical stress or as a result of dietary changes. Your other symptoms of feeling more hot and sweaty cane be reuslt of gastric disorders since vagal nerve is irritated and it may have systemic consequances. At this point I suggest to change dietary habits, avoit coffee, smoking, fried food, sweets and alcohol. Eat more vegetables, noncarbonated drinks, menta tea, boiled meat etc. eat more frequently but smaller meals. If there is no improvement you should start with pantorpasole 40mg which may be more efficient comparing to omeprasole. If nothing helps, you need to do gastroscopy and stomach biopsy to rule out ulcer and helicobacter infection. Wish you good health. Regards

Can you help put my mind at rest. I lost my younger brother recently from a brain tumour and though I've never had any real health issues I have started to worry about my health more... Especially cancer. Are my symptoms worth worrying about in relation to stomach cancer or any other or am I being over sensitive to a relatively common ailment. I'm also travelling to Greece on holiday and would like to try and resolve the issue before I travel.

hi

Detailed Answer:
There is no reason to be worried or rush with diagnostic tests. Malignancy is the last thing to think of. Stomach cancer and upper gastrointestinal tumors rarely occurs at your age (but it is possible even in younger ones). It is true that stomach cancer symptoms are nonspecific, but usually it goes with rapid weight loss, vomiting, nausea and epigastric pain.
So in your case, there are symptoms of acid reflux exacerbation and underlying cause can be some benign stomach disorders such as GERD, ulcer, fastritis, esophagitis etc. but as I said, cancer is the last thing to think of and you shouldnt think of it. It would be smart to do gastroscopy in future if symptoms persist, it will confirm my diagnoses and rule out cancer for sure. After this you should start antiacid therapy with pantoprasole or ranitidine. If you can do it before holidays this would be great. but this is not urgent condition and nothing will happen if you do it later.
