Question: My grand daughter has had a lot of pain and had test done which she and her parents were told that she has large stone in both kidneys. She is fifteen very active and drinks a lot of water (no soda) her doctor said it would take possible eight surgery's four on each kidney. I read about the dangers of surgery in this article and my wife and I as grand parents are concerned that once is bad enough but eight times. This doctor wants to do the first one next Tursday. We told the parents to have this surge to ratings check out but they didn't . Doing eight surgeries scares us and my grand daughter is really scared. We love her and want the best for her, but is this the best option. Please respond soon. Concerned grand parent

Brief Answer:
Please upload all relevant reports of scanning

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your grand daughter has multiple stones in both the kidneys and likely to have complex pelvi calyceal system .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Ultrasound Scanning and Intravenous Pyelography or C.T Scan reports
2) Blood reports .

Generally Kidney stones are fragmented by an endoscopic procedure called Per Cutaneous Nephrolithotomy (P.C.N.L) or in general terms called as Key Hole Surgery .where kidney is punctured to pass an endoscope and stone is fragmented in to small pieces which are picked up and removed from kidney .
Generally if the stones is very large or patient has complex pelvicalyceal system the kidney has to be punctured 2-3 times and surgery is done in two seatings .However this being a non invasive and painless procedure there is nothing to be worried about .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
