Question: My baby (1-year old) is suffering from sensorineural hearing loss. Is the same can be treated through medicines like one of the audiologist prescribed Nootropil syrup along with some audiometery sessions for period of 2-months, or the cochlear implant is the only available treatment?

Brief Answer:
Medicine will not help in sensorineural hearing loss .

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

Medicine (Nootropil syrup) will not help in sensorineural hearing loss but it can prevent further hearing loss.

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice him
start using hearing aid on both sides & audiometery- speech therapy sessions before going for cochlear implant surgery .

If BERA show bilateral sensorineural hearing loss then go for cochlear implant surgery . Cochlear implant surgery will give him good hearing & speech will develop normally .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.
