Question: my scalp looks normal but I feel as it is inflamed, this feeling is now for about 4 years . It started when I used head and shoulders having menthol. The part of scalp where I am feeling inflamed is also losing hair and a bald patch is starting to show up. I have tried using cosentyx as I am also having scalp psoriasis. Please tell me what should I do.

Brief Answer:
Topical ointments or shampoos can help.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Possibly the mentioned complaints are due to scalp psoriasis. You can try applying salicylic acid ointment topically over your scalp. Salicylic acid promotes the sloughing off of dead skin cells and reduces scaling. It’s sometimes combined with other medications, such as corticosteroids or coal tar to increase effectiveness. Salicylic acid is found in some medicated shampoos and scalp solutions, and can be used to treat scalp psoriasis. Topical application of prescription retinoids (synthetic form of vitamin A) can also help improve psoriasis. Coal-tar ointments and shampoos can be used. Coal tar is a byproduct of coal production, and is one of the oldest treatments for psoriasis. The higher the concentration of coal tar in the shampoo, the stronger the treatment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows up to 5 percent for psoriasis treatment.

However, I would insist you to visit a dermatologist and to remain under his follow up. The condition requires long term monitoring.

Feel free to write back.

Hi Sir, Can you suggest me some anti allergic tablets because the Inflammation is on some specific part specially since I used menthol shampoo. I have tried all the treatments you have mentioned and I also tried secunikumab 300 mg and I have finished the loading phase ( also called scapho in india). Please suggest some oral medicine as I am not seeing any improvements as I have tried practically everything on market.

Brief Answer:
Antifungals could have a role to play

Detailed Answer:
Cetirizine is an over the counter antiallergic that can be used. If you have not been benefited by the mentioned treatment modalities you should visit a dermatologist and get a further evaluation done. Treatment with antifungal agents might also be needed.

Please note that psoriasis might be hard to treat and you would have to be patient. That is why long term follow up with your dermatologist is essential.

Brief Answer:
Can be taken. No problems.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. You can use Avil as an antiallergic.

Cancers are characerized by rapid division of cells. So, if you have cancer you would essentially develop a rapidly growing tumor. Unless that is the case you need not grow apprehensive about cancer. Blood tests will not help unless there is a primary location for cancer.
