Suggest Treatment For Ruptures Stitches After Carpal Tunnel Surgery

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2017
Question: My wife had carple tunnel surgery 5 days ago and at the doctor's instructions, removed the bandages for the first time today. She has a 1.5 inch scar that must have ruptured. The skin separated and healing in the gap has begun. It is raised above the surrounding area. There is no leakage.. Is it to late to have corrective work done? Left untreated, she will have a large raised scar. We are traveling for the holiday and won't be home for another 5 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

The stitches need to be revisited. However, I couldn't appreciate the ruptured scar. even though the stitches could have been done much more neatly, I don't think the wound or scar tissue is ruptured.

Consult your nearest minor OT in ER near you and get the area examined. A better option would be to contact the surgeon and fix an early appointment if possible.

For the time being, apply triple antibiotic ointment and normal saline soaked gauze 3 to 4 times a day to prevent any infection and promote healing.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
