Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I have had right abdominal pain for several months and in the last week or so it has become worse. I had an abdominal ultrasound which ruled out appendicitis. I just had an abdominal CT scan on Thurs, but do not have the results yet. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on May 3. Yesterday and today the pain has become mch more intense and I have a metallic taste in my mouth along with severe nausea for which I took Zofran; I also took pain medicine. I am having more frequent bowel movements, but no diarrhea. I have an appt with my family dr on Monday morning. Can I wait until then or should I seek medical help now?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. You are reporting to have right abdominal pain and nausea.
You symptoms may be related with :
- gallbladder issues
- ovarian cysts
- large bowel issues/IBS
It would be great if you send me your abdominal ultrasound and CT scan reports , so I can check them by myself.
2. With regards to the fact that recently you have metallic taste and nausea may be related with an acute gastrointestinal infection.
Meantime you can use:
- butyscopolamine to relieve large bowel spasms
- Zofran
- painkiller to improve your symptoms.
3. If your symptoms doesn't get worse than you can wait till Monday for medical help.
If your symptoms get worse than go immediately at ER.
Hope it was helpful .
