Posted on Thu, 4 Sep 2014
Question: I have a lump near my eyebrow on the left side. It's become red and the doc gave me antibiotics last Thursday. It's under the skin completely ... Has become smaller and now I have a lot if tearing happening in my eye. I also found another lump on my other eye. Almost in same place. Not red but that eye is tear ing a bit too. Today found another lump on my cheek near my nose. And feels like it's tied to my sinuses. Any idea what might be happening ?

Brief Answer:
Pictures of the lumps are needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Can you send pictures of the lumps? I need to determine whether it is a simple bacterial infection of the skin or abscess.

From what you are describing, it might be infection of the skin (multiple locations). The most common cause is Staphilococcus. Antibiotics will improve the symptoms.

If any discharge from the lump, you can run culture and sensitivity testing to determine the most appropriate antibiotic.

Looking forward to have the pictures in!

It's definitely under the skin. I've had staph before and doesn't resemble it aside from being a lump. There is no 'head' on it. And I just researched the anatomy if the sinuses and it is located in those spots. Could it be a sinus infection ?

Brief Answer:
Less likely...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

I do not think it is a sinus infection, but a possible skin infection. If you had staph earlier, it might be the same infection this time. Sometimes, skin infection are deep under the skin, and do not have any "head" on it (the skin is not affected).

You can continue the antibiotics, if no improvement, should change antibiotic or run the above-mentioned test.

Wish fast recovery!
