Suggest Treatment For Red, Itchy And Swollen Face

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Aug 2015
Question: Hello, I recently moved from San Francisco, CA to Bozeman, XXXXXXX The second day we got here my face got very swollen and dry. I started using antihistamines and moisturizing my face with petroleum jelly and the swelling disappeared. However, now my face and neck are red and itchy(it looks like a rash). I wake up and my face is very dry so I apply more petroleum jelly and it makes the itchness disappear. I do have eczema and its apparently allergy season here in Bozeman. Could it be hives or a hay fever rash? What can I do to make the redness disappear?

Allergic inflammation causes red skin rashes.
So along with jelly, also start oral combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs.
Also start anti inflammatory drugs for 1 week. If still not Improving than you should consult dermatologist and get done clinical examination. You may need low dose, short course oral steroid.

Thanks for getting back to me! I've been taking Allegra for the past couple of days and it seems to be helping. The rash started closer to my eyelids and now is moving south (its lower on my neck now) and my eyes are starting to get better. Are there any symptoms that should alarm me to go to the doctor right away or should I just wait another week to see if it gets better?

Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
Since you are improving with Allegra, no need to worry much for this. You will mostly improve in 1-2 weeks.
Alarming signs are worsening of rashes, appearance of new rashes on chest or back, itching, burning of skin, mouth ulcers etc.
If any of these signs appear, than consult dermatologist.

Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No need to worry much for this sore.
It is mostly due to tooth bite.
So avoid hard to chew food. Avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Multivitamin tablet containing folic acid, niacin, vitamin b12 and zinc is also useful in such type of sores.
Don't worry, this will heal in 1-2 weeks.
