Suggest Treatment For Recurring Jock Itchy With Redness And Foul Smell

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: I have some form of jock itch that won't seem to stay away. After using lotrimin af first and moving to lotrimin ultra doesn't make a difference. I do get the redness, a bad smell, and this white stuff once in awhile next to my scrotum where my thighs meet my scrotum. Been having this issue for some months. It went away after applying ultra for 4 weeks once a day. And now 3 weeks later it's back. I am a person that sweats a lot, if that's a factor. Just want this to be done and over with already.

Brief Answer:
You have Intertrigo

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
What you are having is a condition called intertrigo. It is an inflammatory condition of the skin and the cause for it is mainly sweat/moisture, friction/rubbing and heat. It is predominantly not a fungal infection but as moist and hot skin is very conducive for yeast to grow, secondarily you tend to catch yeast infection.
So more important than antifungal cream is ways to keep the area dry and cool.
Wear loose cotton garments. Do not rub or clean that area excessively during bath. Wear a boxer type of cotton under garments. Spread the legs and allow air to dry the area as much as possible.
You may apply a cream containing clotrimazole and Betametasone twice daily over the rash for 2 weeks and then lotrimin ultra for another 2 weeks. You may use an antifungal dusting powder twice daily to keep area dry and to reduce friction.
Hope this helped
Take care.
