Suggest Treatment For Recurring Infection In Semen
Question: Hello,
I had a semen culture growing E coli, heavy growth in all last 3 cultures. I was prescribed antibiotics all 3 times and still the semen culture shows E coli, heavy growth. I have been prescribed Nitrofurantoin 100 mg po bid and Amikacin 500 mg IM bid for 5 days this time around. I am tired and frustrated with repeated antibiotics. Please suggest.

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your semen culture done 3 times has revealed infection due to E-coli organisms and have been prescribed Nitrofurantoin and Amikacin as per sensitivity report .
The only treatment to eradicate infection any where in the body is to take appropriate antibiotics as per culture report .Since your infection is of very severe nature you may need to take antibiotics continuously for 3-4 weeks .
Please do not get frustrated and take the medications judiciously.That is the only way to control the infection
