Brief Answer:
Repeated lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Repeated attacks of pneumonias, persistent cough with expectoration in spite of courses of antibiotics points towards the possibility of Bronchiectasis as the underlying condition, which serves as the source of repeated infections.

Bronchiectasis can be diagnosed by High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) chest.
Meanwhile you have to continue bronchodilators like oral theophylline and Beta 2 agonists (salbutamol or salmeterol) as inhalation. You can add oral N-Acetylcysteine which decreases thickness of mucous secretions in lung.

My dr is not in favor of doing x-rays or tests should I go back to him with continued complaints or seek help at an ER someplace. The pain with cough is severe and I already live with chronic pain which I know has only complicated matters I feel I really need help and not getting it

Brief Answer:
Xray or Sputum culture

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
A chest X-ray is the common non-invasive investigation that helps in the diagnosis of respiratory disease .
Analysis of the chest X-ray is complimentary to the patient's physical examination.
Interpretation of a chest x-ray is practically an extension to clinical examination . The evaluation of respiratory system remains incomplete without radio-logical investigation.
Otherwise you can undergo sputum (early morning sample)for culture and sensitivity tests and Sputum for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacillus) for consecutive 3 days
