Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Ear Infection

Question: My almost 8 month old got tubes put on his ears on Wednesday...it's now Saturday and I have a couple concerns. He's had some dried blood in each ear mainly in the mornings. They had me use the ear drops 3 in each ear, 3 times a day for 3 days. Today is the first day without them and he is getting snotty like he's getting a cold. Well that's what caused all his ear infections. I'm concerned about the dried blood in his ears in the mornings and that he seems to be getting a cold and his tubes are so new. What do I do if he starts draining fluid out his ears from this cold? I can call his doctor Monday, but worried this is not good.

Brief Answer:
Ear tubes

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your XXXXXXX care concerns

You child had ear tubes placed because of recurrent ear infections. Since being placed he has had some dried blood. This is to be expected. I would not worry about the blood. It will eventually stop. As long as it is not lots of blood I would not be concerned. If he get a cold this also should not be a concern. The tubes are there to prevent ear infection and pain from a URI that develops into an ear infection. This will be a good test to see if they work. If he has some drainage that is good that actually shows that the tubes are working properly.
