Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Canker Sores Inside The Mouth

Question: My son has recurrent canker sores inside his mouth and also has a collection of small bumps on his penis. The pumps on his penis dry up, but the skin remains irritated, very pink//red and abraded looking. He has the ring of redness in at least three locations (near the base of the penis along the top, about mid way, and just above the head of the penis and most recently on the underside of the penis he has about three rough feeling bumps (pimple-like). I took him to the pediatrician because I was concerned that he may have used a towel of mine (I have genital herpes) and the Dr. thought that the canker sores and the pumps on the penis were either coxsackie virus (A-15, I believe) or herpes ( he didn't specify the genital kind of Herpes Simplex 1 (the cold sore kind). My son's condition has flared up again. What specialist should we try to get an appointment with.

Brief Answer:
A dermatologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
It is possible that your son has Behcet's syndrome.
Please show him to a dermatologist who will examine and do the appropriate test to arrive at a diagnosis.
Best wishes,

HCM1 30275 is my transaction number.

Just spoke with my son. He said the Dr. said he thought it was Coxsackie A-16, not A-15, or that both the cankers and the bumps on the penis could possibly be caused by the Herpes virus.

And why do you think it isn't Coxsackie A-16 or Herpes

Brief Answer:
To be considered in the differential diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
If the doctor had run the tests for herpes and coxsackie viruses and then made the diagnosis, its okay.
If not, then consider Behcet's also in the differential as there are mouth and genital lesions . I have seen a few cases in adults where the diagnosis was missed because it was not thought of.
