Suggest Treatment For Pus Filled Pimple Inside The Mouth

Question: Hi,
My mom has a painful pus pimple inside the mouth-on the upper section of the mouth where we swallow. This resulted in extreme pain in her neck and ears. What are the causes, impacts & treatment? You response will be very appreciated. Thanks.

This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query.

Read your query and understand your concern . As far as painful pus pimple on roof of mouth (soft palate) region is concerned it can be due to trauma , inflammation of gums ( Periodontal abscess) or due to dental infection (carious tooth) causing small collection of pus resulting in Periapical abscess. Extreme pain in her neck and ear can be radiating pain.
Can you upload image of region of pus pimple that will be more helpful for me to arrive at conclusion and give you proper diagnosis.
Based on detail provided I will suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene .
-Do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day .
- Use chlorhexidine mouthwash regularly .
- For painful abscess (pus) formation you can give her medicine like Augmentin with metronidazole and analgesic like Ibugesic plus or Ketrol dt by consulting with local doctor .

You can do these remedies and consult oral surgeon for visual examination and investigation occlusal radiograph of upper arch (maxilla) to confirm diagnosis . If radiograph reveals pus formation is due to gum infection then treatment plan will be scaling and curettage and if it is due to tooth infection then treatment plan can be root canal treatment or extraction .Please dont worry once your mothers teeth and gums are taken care pimple will go and not reoccur.

This pus pimple is not close to teeth. This is somewhere in the neck and not visible. I cannot take picture.

strep throat , tonsilitis , treatment.

Hello ,

Welcome again .

Read your query and understand your concern . Pus pimple somewhere in neck region, can be due to viral infection , strep throat or acute follicular tonsilitis . For this I will suggest you to consult Ent surgeon for clinical examination of throat and investigations like culture and sensitivity throat swab and blood -CBC , ESR to get proper diagnosis.
Treatment plan is if it is strep throat then it requires antibiotic course and drainage of pus . In acute tonsillitis antibiotic course is given and in chronic infection of tonsillitis removal of tonsils is best treatment . In meantime do warm saline gargle 2 to 3 times a day.
