Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: For the past couple of months periodically I have been feeling my pulse in a particular tooth. There is no pain involved and the tooth has no cavity. The surrounding tissue (gum) is healthy. No dentistry has ever been done on the tooth. No history of trauma to the tooth. I am 54 years old. What is causing this painless throbbing? Regards XXXX

Brief Answer:
Attrision /Abrasion /Erosion ( thinning of Enamel)

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX ,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query .

Read your query and understand your concern as you have Painless throbbing in one particular tooth there may chances of Attrision /Abrasion ( slightly wearing of occusal or cervical portion of tooth) or Erosion of particular teeth which causing thobbing in tooth , or sometimes oral manifestion is due to some systemic problem also like Sinus infection.

Can you attach report ( image ) of tooth that will be more helpful for me to arrive at conclusion .

Based on detail provided I will suggest you to Use soft bristle toothbrush to brush your teeth from top to bottom avoid horizontal brushing .
- Use can use toothpaste like Sensodyne to brush your teeth.
- Do warm saline rinses two -three times a day .

Waiting picture to comment further .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.

I have had an xray of this tooth, but doubt whether the dentist will release the image. Will try to obtain it, though.

Many thanks for your answer and advice.
