Question: Before finding out i had a large meningioma brain tumor...I started developing psoriasis on my scalp and elbows. Had tumor removed 10/14 and Gamma Knife procedure 03/15. I thought maybe as my immune system got back to normal that it would go away...but it hasn't. It is very thick along my surgical scare and at the folds at the nape of my neck. Now it's in and behind my ears and under my breasts and in my navel. Steroid creams work to clear it but it comes right back. Nothing I've tried has helped it in my hair!! HELP!

Brief Answer:
salicylic acid clobetasol propionate lotion for scalp psoriasis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcare magic

I have gone through your complaints .

Psoriasis is a chronic immmune mediated disease of the skin which doesn't have any permanent cure but shows periods of remission and relapses.

For scalp proriasis I normally recommend my patients to use a shampoo containing salicylic acid and coal tar which has to be used twice weekly along with a lotion containing high potency steroid like clobetasol propionate in combination with salicylic acid 6 percent over the affected areas twice daily. The salicylic acid normally helps in clearing the thick scales of psoriasis plaques.

For other areas like behind the ears, breasts and navel I recommend my patients to use potent steroids like clobetasol propionate cream or betamethasone cream twice daily for few days followed by gradual tapering to avoid relapse. Along with this I advice them to use moisturising creams containing white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin frequently and liberally.

In case of itching I recommend them to take antihistaminics like tablet levocetrizine 5 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching.

All these are prescription medicines and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.

Dr Asmeet
