Brief Answer:
Stomach hyperacidity;treatment&tests advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I understand your concerns.

Having mucusy throat and spitting after drinking milk products is indicating for possible hyperacidity due to aggravation of gastritis/GERD.

I advise to:
- avoid chilly/milk product/spicy or all other foods/drinks that would cause mucusy throat (hyperacidity of the stomach)
- eat often and small portions
- take antacids after meal
- start taking Prevacid in the morning only for the moment
- do not lay down immediately after eating.

As you are reporting to be a type 2 diabetic, I advise to schedule an appointment with GI specialist and to run further tests :
- upper endoscopy: to evaluate your chronic gastritis or if GERD is present
- manomentry studies to exclude diabetic gastroparesis

Hope it was of help!

This is my endoscopy report done in April 2015
Had severe heartburn used to feel discomfort when ate and couldnt breathe with gases used to feel trapped before. Couldn't eat franks etc

Now in XXXXXXX been able to eat more except for that acidity feeling getting in throat and belching feeling since stopped taking prevacid which have no more refills but been eatting Chinese food and the lactaid milk w cereal in mornings and apple juice

Can I get prevacid over counter ? What milligrams is good Til I get to GI doctor again

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXX

I checked though your reports but you have uploaded only US DPLX veins and no upper endoscopy report.

However all your symptoms seems to be related with GERD ( acid reflux).

For the moment I suggest:
- start prevacid 24H OTC treatment 15 mg per day for two weeks
- avoid spicy, chilly foods( like Chinese foods)
- avoid coffee, milk, chocolate, smoking and alcohol
- use two pillow when you lay down
- increase your physical activity
- avoid unnecessary stress
- eat often and small meals
- eat three hours before go to bed
Wishing you fast recovery.

I am uploading report of endoscopy and stool testing "DRG" shows
1)mild chronic gastritis
2) mild erythema biopsy taken (not sure what this means)
*Gastric antral/oxyntic mucosa with minimum
Superficial chronic inflammation
Immunostain for H.pylori is negative
No evidence of intestinal metaplasia

On stool test report indicates
"Fecal occult blood" positive what can this mean?

Currently have anemia

Is a colonscopy really necessary not a smoker or a drinker

Kindly advise

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy is recommended at your case...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

After reviewing the new data you provided I can confirm that you have mild gastritis/GERD (which explain your symptoms).

The erythema that was present on endoscopy is a sign of inflammation, however it's part of medical protocols to take biopsy on such a finding.

You should continue with PPI treatment and regular follow ups with your gastroenterologist.

It's recommended for patients of your age that have positive fecal occult blood and anemia to do colonoscopy.
