Suggest Treatment For Presence Of Fluid In Legs And Ankles

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jul 2015
Question: I have a history of excess fluid in my legs and ankles.
I just got over a bout with fluid.
Cardiologist has me on 80mg of furosemide daily.
I did take in addition metolazone 10mg one per day for three days.
It did work, my legs are normal in size.
However I have been told by my Dr. To continue with 80mg furosemide until July 25 when I
Will see him.
I also have been taking 2 klor con M20 tablets per day.
I am starting to feel very tired and feel like I am very sleepy.
I am 89yrs old, could my fatigue be from the high dosege of Meds I am consuming?
I do drink more water than usual, but cannot gobble large quantities.

Brief Answer:
Check sodium

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible hyponatremia or low salt levels. you are on diuretics. They are supposed to have the side effects of causing low sodium levels which can cause your problem.
I therefore feel that you can get blood test done for sodium. dose modification of medicine may be needed if present.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
