Suggest Treatment For Pinching Sensation Behind The Ear

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Question: Yesterday as I sat at the computer, got tired, and leaned my head bent down, toward the armrest, I get a sharp whip in the left back of the head, behind the ear.
It did last 1 secound and then it was gone.

At the moment I feel a tickling sensation / pins and needles on the spot. Like a small pressure. It doesnt hurt, But I dont want it.
I have it all the time. I got those feelings next day in the afternoon and have had it for 2 days.

I think a nerve is beeing pinched.

1. What do you think this is?

2. Do you think it has to do with the "sharp whip"?
If so why wouldnt I feel it same day?

3. Do you think time can heal? After some days it might get over?

4. What should I do now? I mean how could the doctor solve this? Threatment?

5. Can this be anxiety for some reason?

Thx :)

Brief Answer:
Probably pinched or stretched nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your questions and understand your concerns.

1. In my opinion, your symptoms were caused by a pinched or stretched nerve that arises from upper cervical spine and supplies mainly back of the head.

2. Tingling, or pins and needles sensation after an initial damage of the nerves are common features, so, it has to do with the sharp whip.

3. I think it will pass in few days or a week.

4. Best thing to do is to relax and rest your neck by using a soft cervical collar for few days and avoiding sudden neck movements. If no improvement in a week or so, drugs can be used (eg. Gabapentin, Amytriptiline, NSAID etc.).

5. Anxiety and stress disorder always aggravates symptoms and health conditions, or even could cause similar symptoms by itself, so, fighting anxiety results in improvement too.

Hope you found the answers helpful.

Take care.
