Suggest Treatment For Piercing Abdominal Pain And Infection In Gall Bladder

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2015
Question: My wife is having continuous upper piercing abdominal pain front to back. She has had an ultrasound, now an EGD with unknown etiology. Hide a scan is scheduled next to rule out in infected gallbladder. They are alos going to test for acinetobacter. She has lived in AZ for 18 years. Was just wondering if Valley Fever could be playing a role. She also has nausea and vomiting. Any ideas?

Here is some added information. She resided in AZ for 18 years with the same symptoms of pain. The pain to the abdomen would come and go although not quite as intense as now. We moved to Utah 6 years ago with the same symptoms but now the pain, nausea and vomiting has been consistent for around two weeks. Her father died at age 54 from colon cancer. My wife is 62. No bleeding. No irregular bowel movements. No constipation. She is taking levothyroxine daily.

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Need reports of ultrasound and EGD if you do not mind sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Your wife's symptoms clearly point towards a GIT (gastrointestinal) abnormality. With the current information at hand I would first like to ask what the results for the ultrasound and EGD were? Could you kindly either attach them to our discussion here to write to me with the results?

With the current information at hand I suspect conditions like:

+Gastritis
+Hiatus hernia
+Peptic ulcer disease
+Barrett's esophagus
+Gastroesophageal reflux disease
+Tumor
+Gall bladder stones
+Gall bladder or hepatobiliary tract strictures, stones, etc.
+Cancer (rare)
and a few other conditions.

So it is first important to get the results from the ultrasound and EGD to further suspect conditions and also rule out some of them from the current list.

Valley fever is unlikely sir, as the symptoms of Valley fever consist of :

+Constricting chest pain
+Cough
+Fever
+Joint pains
+Rash
+Night sweats
+Chills
+Fatigue
+Headaches
and others.

I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further, so please do write back to me for any further clarifications, and also with as much information as you have that can help me provide you with he way forward towards helping ma'am (your wife). I hope you find my response both helpful and informative sir.

Best wishes.
