Suggest Treatment For Pet Python Bite On Arm

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: my great granddaughter had held her guinea pig and I had taken the ball python out to clean her cage and she must have smelled the guinea pig on my granddaughter and bit her once on the arm. The snake immediately released but did draw blood. I washed her arm well with soap and water and put Neosporin on the bite and covered with gauze. What else do I need to do? Should the bite be seen by a doctor?

snake bite

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that your daughter was bitten by python pet snake. Their bites are not at all lethal but there is a chance of getting salmonella from a bite. The best thing to do is as you already done. Clean the wound and start placing neosporin on the wound. If the wound becomes red and swollen then I would recommend see your medical provider. At this time since there is no infection I would wait. Just cleaning the wound and apply the antibiotic ointment maybe enough to keep any infection from starting.

In summary
1. non lethal bite
2. Clean the wound soap and water
3. Apply neosporin and change dressing daily
4. See medical provider if the area becomes swollen and red

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
